We all miss going out for great music, company, and just moving those happy feet like no one is watching. With clubs reopening after a long hiatus, we can't wait 'til we can hit the dance floor again, but while we ready for that day, here's a roundup of the best underground clubs in Hong Kong that we can all look forward to visit. If you're looking for a bit more than traditional club sounds that brings various genres of music, these clubs have lined up DJs to cater to your needs.

This small underground spot has gone through many surface-level changes over the years. Still, one thing has remained constant – regardless of whether it's been known as Yumla, Midnight and Co, or Oma – this spot is a key player in the city's underground electronic music scene. The DJs are handpicked, and the local spinners rank among the very best in the city. Catch the iconic Hong Kong nightlife brand small&TALL – responsible for bringing musical acts to the city like Love Affair, Apparat, Hercules, Wolf+Lamb, Art Department, and Soul Clap – on May 30 for a pop-up surprise at Oma, and enjoy the clubs brand new sound system and lighting.

One of the best-known clubs in Asia, Drop opened in 2000 and has since become a favourite fixture among partygoers. The place dedicates its beats to house, old school 70s to 80s, deep house, future house, and techno. It's also where celebrities drop by for their after-parties – Pet Shop Boys, Jamiroquai, Sting, and The Black Eyed Peas partied in the club during their Hong Kong visits. The eclectic crowd and great dance music creates a vibe for a fun and amazing night. Catch old school 70s, 80s, soul, and funk beats with DJs Joel Lai and Ivan Sit on Wednesdays; house music with DJ Craig Lopez on Thursdays; deep house, tech house, and techno music with DJs Ivan Sit and Abel Rogers on Fridays; and deep, tech, and future house with DJs Joel Lai and ManOne Mathew Peter Rudge.

Being a nightclub in Hong Kong for more than a decade is a feat. For years Volar has kept sociophiles satiated with electronic beats and urban style music in one of the largest floor spaces in Hong Kong. It's underground, maze-like, location in Lan Kwai Fong has hosted a lot of famous international acts over the years. With a hefty door charge ($300) and a lot of room to explore, you will likely end up staying here for hours either nursing your two free drinks that come with the entry fee, or just getting lost in the music.

宀 (Mihn) welcomes people of all races, genders, and sexual identities. There's no dress code here, and in order to protect patrons' privacy, taking photographs is not allowed. Head there on the weekends from 11pm to 5am and catch both local and international underground DJs (from the US, Europe, and Asia) stimulate the place with house or techno music. Occasionally, 宀 (Mihn) gallery opens its doors and turns from underground nightclub to a creative art space for emerging artists in Hong Kong and from all around the world.

If you like contemporary jazz, funk, and deep house, and music that tries to veer away from popular sounds, then this is the place to be. The club under Buzz Concepts Management – formerly known as FLY – reopened two years ago as Mudita. The place plays neo-funk and tech house, courtesy of their resident DJs. Start your tipples here from 5pm and get your first drink for only $5. After that get all your drinks half price until 11pm.

Social Room features both local and international talents that play the best underground electronic music that can get your happy feet grooving. Entrance here is free, but ticket prices vary if a special guest DJ is playing for the night. Enjoy beats from this loft-style space during the weekends to catch their house DJs. Or make sure to tick your calendar for their scheduled gigs: Kaya DJ and Ocean Lam on May 29, PureMIND and Rase & MM Minimano on May 5, and Mengzy's birthday mash-up on June 6.
